Looking for Some Normalcy

Looking back over the last month and I can't find one normal week in it.

There were the two weeks when I was working with the film crew.  Last week we lost two days due to the dentist and a church work day and this week was thrown out of whack with the pastor's conference and a funeral today.

It is 2:30 in the afternoon and I just don't have it in me to sit everyone down to do school.  I tried to get the boys to do their math before I left for church but everyone was a bit high strung and neither boy completed their assignment.

I am not sure what to do.  I keep thinking about the Washington Virtual Acadamy that is offered here.  How convenient that would be for the kids to have their school work via a virtual teacher on the computer.  I found some net books for a very affordable price.  The kids could do their school work where ever there is wi-fi.  (There is wi-fi here at the house already.)

I don't know but something has got to give.  I don't see any thing in our schedules for the next few weeks that should get in our way except for spring break.

Does anyone else struggle with this?

  1. Just a word of advice: WAVA is really good as far as content. The kids will get an excellent education with great materials. That said, it is by no means less teacher-intense than other programs. You'll still be working with the kids A LOT. If you want to ask me about the program, give me a call!

  2. I plan to spend some time talking with you during our visit about WVA. I really don't want to walk away from Tapestry of Grace. I have been looking forward to going through Year 2 material but looking for ways to motivate my children and push them to the next level of learning and independence.

  3. I've been thinking about it since I read your post this afternoon, and I think maybe for you WAVA might be less work. From what you said Tapestry of Grace can't really be done without you there, whereas large parts of WAVA will be able to be done without your direct involvement, especially since all your kids are late elementary and up. Bonnie, especially, will probably be able to work with minimal assistance. The thing about WAVA is that it's an advanced curriculum...they even tell you upfront it's at least a year ahead of public school...and it's just plain a great deal of work for the child. You'd have to know that going in.

Another curriculum to consider is ACE. I really love it, and part of the reason for that is it allows my kids to work fairly independently.

We'll talk more when you're here!
